MEET THE 2019 LOCAL PATHWAYS FELLOWS
The second cohort of the Local Pathways Fellowship is bringing together a network of 56 young thought leaders, urban planners, sustainability advocates, researchers and innovators from more than 50 cities across the world to advance local dialogue, collaboration and problem solving around the Sustainable Development Goals and to make cities and urban settlements “smart, fair and sustainable”.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Victor holds a MA in Planning and a BA in Geography from UBC.

William is an EU Architect and co-founder designing inclusive and resilient cities. A Research Affiliate with the Center for Sustainable Urban Development at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, he co-authored UN-Habitat's World Urban Youth Declaration and launched the UN General Assembly's Youth 2030 Strategy. He is a Dottore Magistrale cum laude (Italy) and University Medallist (Australia).

A Ph.D. student at Cornell and a Forbes Under 30 Scholar, Xiangkun (Elvis) Cao (www.elviscao.com) is studying CO2 conversion to fuels with sunlight, which earned him a $20K Grand Prize in 2017 “Create the Future” Design contest by NASA Tech Briefs. He hopes to contribute to the Tompkins County Energy Roadmap, which sets a strategic goal of 80% reductions in GHG emissions from 2008 levels by 2050.

Driven to advance the transition to clean energy, Nick Gigot is an Environmental Studies and Economics student at the University of North Carolina. He has interned at URBAN-X, a venture fund for urban technology startups, where he worked with founders and investors to scale up companies in the energy and mobility sectors. He has also researched grid resiliency policy for the UNC School of Law.

Dockless bikesharing has changed how many people move. These bikes, however, have posed problems. Cities need regulation to find new ways to ensure that these bikes benefit more communities.
