SDSN Youth Announces the 2025 Local Pathways Fellowship (LPF) Program Application Call
NEW YORK, N.Y., Dec 23, 2024 SDSN Youth is thrilled to announce the launch of applications for the 2025 Local Pathways Fellowship (LPF) program, starting on Monday, December 23, 2024 and until January 19, 2025. This unique opportunity invites emerging leaders passionate about sustainable urban development to contribute to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Local Pathways Fellowship serves as a dynamic platform for young changemakers to translate their vision for sustainability into actionable solutions, driving progress toward the SDGs within their communities and beyond. As we approach 2030, this program continues to empower youth as pivotal change agents, fostering the development of cities that are inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
The Local Pathways Fellowship, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth (SDSN Youth), equips young urban leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to tackle complex urban challenges. With a focus on Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, LPF provides an immersive training program that transforms ideas into impactful projects, spanning grassroots initiatives, startup ventures, and policy reforms.
In collaboration with global partners, LPF connects fellows with resources, mentorship, and opportunities for innovation and action. Since its inception in 2016, LPF has empowered seven cohorts and built a robust global network. The 2024 cohort alone engaged 103 fellows from 85 cities worldwide
For 2025, the program will offer an online course, mentorship from global experts, and peer-to-peer collaboration with changemakers worldwide. Fellows will develop and implement localized solutions while being part of a vibrant global community dedicated to sustainable urban transformation.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to young leaders aged 18-30, including early-career professionals and students with a passion for sustainable urban development. Applicants should demonstrate:
At least one year of academic or professional experience in relevant fields such as urban planning, advocacy, or community initiatives.
A well-defined project idea or initiative aligned with the SDG 11.
The ability to commit 4-6 hours per week from February to November 2025.
Application Timeline
Applications for the 2025 Local Pathways Fellowship will be accepted from December 23, 2024, to January 19th, 2025, at 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time).
About the Local Pathways Fellowship
Launched in 2016 at the UN Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador the Local Pathways Fellowship was established to advance the localization of the UN’s 2030 Agenda. The fellowship brings together sustainability practitioners, innovators, and urban leaders to collaborate on implementing Sustainable Development Goal 11. By providing training and resources, LPF enables the process of ‘localising’ SDGs through scalable and impactful projects that transform urban communities worldwide.
